Bus Transportation/Passes
Bus Passes
While the Oceanside Unified School District provides transportation, the cost of this service exceeds the cost covered by the State of California. As a result, it is necessary for the district to charge a fee for service.
There is a sliding scale for fees based on total family income. The income guidelines are established by the United States Department of Agriculture and are similar to those used through the free/reduced lunch program.
To apply online for a bus pass, please complete the appropriate application. Links to the applications can be found in the lower left corner of this web page. If a payment is necessary, click on the PaySchools link and remit same. If you believe you qualify for reduced bus pass fees then fill out the appropriate application and submit any required documentation. You will be notified if you qualify and arrangments for payment will be made.
Bus Pass Guidelines
- All students must have a bus pass to ride the bus both morning and afternoon.
- All students will have “No Pass Ride” days. A “No Pass Ride” occurs when a student fails to present a bus pass for either the morning, afternoon or both.
- Students in grades K-5 will be given 3 “No Pass Rides.” In those instances, the driver will note the date that the student did not have their bus pass and notify the bus pass office.
- Students in grades 6—12 will be given 2 “No Pass Rides.” In those instances the driver will note the date that the student did not have their bus pass and notify the bus pass office.
- Once a student in grades K-5 has used all 3 “No Pass Rides,” they will be transported to school in the morning and left at school in the afternoon. The parents will be notified.
- Once students in grades 6-12 have used their 2 no pass rides, they will be denied transportation either to or from school, whichever is applicable.
- If a student abuses this privilege and does not get a replacement pass, the parents will be contacted and advised that he child will no longer receive transportation until an appropriate bus pass can be shown to the driver.
- Violations of the bus pass policy will be handled like all other disciplinary problems.
- If a student reports to the driver that they have lost their bus pass, the student will be given 3 days to obtain a replacement.
- Replacement passes will be available at the bus pass office for a $7.00 fee.
- Drivers will not handle cash/checks at any time.
